I’ve had the privilege of serving as a councillor in Melton Mowbray for 16, including 14 years as part of the ruling group where I held cabinet responsibilities. Over the last two years, I’ve continued to represent my community from the opposition, focusing on holding the administration to account and ensuring residents' concerns remain central to local decision-making. While my teaching career has demanded more of my time recently, I remain deeply committed to Melton and bring both experience and a strong sense of public duty to the role.
I’m proud to serve as a trustee of The Raynes Foundation, a local charity supporting local children and young people in education and other community initiatives. I’ve previously been a member of Rotary and a feoffee of the Town Estate, and also served as a school governor. I have chaired the local residents' group for a number of years and have been actively involved in it for over 15 years, helping to bring neighbourhood voices into local conversations. My voluntary work has included supporting a local pupil referral unit before transitioning into my current role in education.
While not currently affiliated with any formal campaign groups, I remain a strong advocate for community-led action and continue to campaign on issues such as education, youth provision, and local economic growth. I use my council platform to raise resident concerns and promote fair access to services, particularly where it relates to supporting working families, small businesses, and vulnerable groups.
I’m passionate about education, business, and the local economy — interests that have shaped both my professional and personal life. Before becoming a teacher, I ran two small businesses here in Melton, and I continue to champion local enterprise as a key part of our town’s future. I also enjoy exploring local history, and supporting initiatives for people with Special Educational Needs.
